EQUITY is a group of parents, educators, students, and community members working together to support educational experiences in the K to 8 environment appropriate to the needs of all children, with an emphasis on those who demonstrate advanced performance or potential. We seek to provide information and support to strengthen and enhance development of schools and classrooms in which both equity and excellence are persistent goals for each child, enabling each and every child to achieve his or her maximum potential.

  1. What is happening with the fight to keep Algebra I?

If our children do not get Algebra I in 8th grade they are not going to be anywhere near up to par with the Millstone students in high school. The Millstone students come into the high school with many junior high honors classes. My honor student high school son sees and feels the difference in class. At least the Allentown kids could keep up in math even if they feel behind in History, English and Science. If we let the Algebra to be dropped they will not even be able to be in the same college prep track. How sad.

  2. Congrats to the parents who fought for Alegbra l. One year ago Ms. Peluso and I had a convesation in her office concerning her thoughts on doing away with it. She did not feel that children in 8th grade where ready for Algebra l. Apparently she heard our opposition and made an about face this year and proposed that it stay, with some modifications! Please keep us informed of the outcome this coming fall. Will it really happen for everyone who qualifies? Will we ever get advanced classes in Science, English and History as Millstone does. Recently at the undergrad High School awards night it was obvious that the Millstone students continue to shine.

  3. I think that I may be the only who uses this forum but I will write anyway.

I see that the school took out a full page add in the Examiner newspaper (May 8, 2008) boosting about all the wonderful programs at UFRSD. Now they are “increasing the percentage of students successfully completing Algebra by the end of 8th grade”. This is truly amazing. Why did we have to put up such a fight to keep it two years ago if now it is so wonderful? Baffling in some respect. My guess is Mr. G is now embrassing the program and making it work even better then ever! Thanks Mr. G.
